Making your own bath salts is not only convenient, but can also be a nice decoration, or even a wonderful gift for a friend, since they can be used by just about anyone. And since there are no harsh chemicals in the home-made kind, they are perfectly safe. They can be made with any essential oils you wish, and with some food coloring, can be colored any shade. All you need is 3 parts Epsom salts, 2 parts baking soda and 1 part table salt, or borax. Personally, instead of the table salt, I use fine ground seasalt. Blend these together, and you've created the base for the following recipes. To add color, simply add the drops to the salt base. If you want to mix colors, do so in a spoon or small dish before adding to the salt. To add the essential oils, you may want to prepare the blend in a separate container, then add them to the salts, stirring the salts until all of them are moistened. Finally, add a few drops of glycerin to the salts to help keep the scent. To use the bath salts, add a half-cup to a tub of warm water. Some of the recipes below are found in "The Complete Book of Incense, Oils and Brews" by Scott Cunningham. You can purchase this book by clicking on the links below.
